Prayer and Praise!
Dear Friends and Partners in Ministry,
Recent tragic events have occurred on secondary school campuses across Kenya caused by students rioting due to grievances. Sixteen girls were burned to death in a dorm fire late at night, and many other schools experienced vandalism. One of our own ROCK children was involved in the rioting at their boarding school. Students around the nation were sent home indefinitely and now are slowly being sent back. Please pray for the school authorities, parents, and students as they seek peaceful resolutions and repair the damages; and pray for the families whose children died in the fire. The country is mourning these great losses. May Malava Christian Academy be a shining light of God’s love.
All these difficult and challenging times give us an incredible opportunity as Christ-followers to impact a hurting world through compassion and love. As Kenya’s Children’s Department makes the transition from orphanages to foster care by shutting down Charitable Children’s Institutes and training foster families, ROCK Ministries continues to stand on alert diligently keeping watch over the ROCK children that have had to transition, coming around families needing extra support, and staying ready to work alongside the Children’s Department to help children find safety. ROCK Ministries is now well-known in the community as a place to come to in time of need. The sponsorship program will be expanded one child at a time with the help of ROCK’s fulltime social worker, Beatrice Anupi, and director, Teresa Boyani, and you! Please let us know if you would like to sponsor a child.
Last week we received a call from some dear friends who wanted to pay the $5600 for the chicken project. This amount includes the funds for 300 chicks, their vaccines, a barn, and food. As soon as the funds are received in Kenya, the building will begin. We praise God for His provisions from the $10 to the $5600 and everything in between. No amount is too small and each donation is given sacrificially and with great faith. We have witnessed the “feeding of the 5000” with just “five loaves and two fish” these last six years and are so grateful to God and to all of you that have donated!
Donations have been coming in for the School Building Fund, and the build will begin November 1st. About $45,000 has come in of the $110,000, and we are trusting God’s total provision in the next couple months. Many of you have given so generously; and to those of you unable to give financially, we have experienced your love and support through prayers and encouraging words. “God will meet all YOUR needs according to His glorious riches in Christ Jesus (Phil. 4:19).” We are all growing in faith together for His Kingdom and glory!
Please join us in praising God for Pelah, Teresa’s daughter, who has been given a scholarship to a one-month Bible school in September with Torch Bearers and for Samantha, our daughter, who took the Medical College Admissions Test and received a competitive score after studying for months. Please join us in praying for one of ROCK’s young adults who has grown up in ROCK’s children’s home but was away at trade school. He will be facing time in jail for assault due to his drug addiction that has recently come to light. Pray for his healing, restoration, and understanding of God’s deep love.
With deep gratitude to each of you and trusting God in all things, Kyon and Cindy
